Greensboro Celebrates National Novel Writing Month with Virtual Events

Each November writers from around the world sign up for the National Novel Writing Month challenge with the same goal, to write 50,000 words toward the completion of a novel in 30 days. Greensboro Public Library supports local writers during the month-long challenge along with NaNoWriMo, a nonprofit group that provides tools, structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices and achieve their creative goals. This year’s library events, Come Write In, will be online and start at 2:30 pm, Saturday, November 7.

Come Write In virtual events offer writers a chance to learn from previous participants, discuss their writing and share their work. These events will all take place online at 2:30 pm, November 7, 14 and 21. The series will culminate with a celebration of the end of National Novel Writing Month on Saturday December 5 at 2:30 pm.

National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days. Since it began hundreds of NaNoWriMo novels have been published including Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, Hugh Howey’s Wool, Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, and Marissa Meyer’s Cinder.
